Owners of Noakhali coaching centres doing business

The owners of the coaching centres in the district have been doing brisk business for a long time.
Several unemployed and illiterate youths have set up coaching centres, including Saifur’s, Mentors and 10 others, in the heart of Maijdee town assuring people of quality education. Many guardians and students alleged that Saifur Coaching Centre, located at new bus stand area in Maijdee town, has been running in a rented house. Once worked as an MLLS, Mehadi Hassan is now the manager of Saifur’s Coaching Centre. In the same way, some unemployed educated youths who have not even completed their degree have set up coaching centres decorated with attractive banners and lucrative leaflets pasted on the walls of the centre.
Similarly, there are more than 10 coaching centres in the district town located in residential areas. One coaching centre is set up near Noakhali Government Women’s College, another near Noakhali Government Honours College, Noakhali Government Girls’ School areas. The owners of most of the coaching centers provide coaching for ELTS, BCS, BSc and many more courses by employing ordinary teachers who have completed secondary level and higher secondary level and earn a huge amount of money through tuition fee.
MENTORS is running the new bus stand and Waymark is running in Lawyers residential area and another coaching centre is located at a distance of 300 metres at Girl’s School and Women’s College.
When contacted Mehadi Hassan, manager of Saifur’s, he told this correspondent to contact the head office in Dhaka.
Nazimuddin, honours student and manager of another coaching centre, said, he charges Tk 6,000 as fee for BCS course, for IELTS course Tk 6,000 Spoken English Tk 1,500 excluding admission test fee Tk. 1,500 to Tk 5,500. They mainly provide coaching to BCS, IELTS, Spoken English, coaching for admission test for SSC and HSC, JSD students.
M. Akhteruzzaman, teacher of a coaching centre, said, Mehadi Hassan is neither manager nor owner of the centre. Only one teacher teaches at the coaching centre from 9 am to 6 pm every day. Hardly any qualified teacher visits the centre from Dhaka.
Sources said, these centres attract students and guardians with their attractive names similar to that in Dhaka but in reality, students and teachers without any teaching experience teach at these coaching centres.
Some students and guardians alleged that a large number of students go to these coaching centres for becoming proficient in English and Mathematics but they fail to avail what they wanted.
They spend a huge amount of money to get admission in good schools and colleges but not even a single student could get admission in university or college after studying from these coaching centres. Guardians and their wards go to these coaching centres in the hope of admitting their children in good schools and colleges but in vain.
Many college teachers and experts in the district said, the government should take initiatives and ban such fake coaching centres in the district.
When asked DC of Noakhali M. Sirajul Islam about the matter, he told that he cannot take any legal action against the coaching centres without any directive from the district administration.
